Vampires theme – medieval pop
"Cola was in fashion in the 80s; in the 90s - Grunge. And now is the era of vampires. It is fucking fashionable". Vampires Suck, 2010
The image of the cult hero of the novel by Bram Stoker, namely Dracula, reincarnated on the screens many times and in many forms: from the horrendous Nosferatu to the standard Dracula look with fangs and a high collar. In the film industry, there are a large number of prototypes of this hero.
Dracula, 1931
The prototype of the sinister character of Dracula is Vlad Tepes, the ruler of the Principality of Wallachia. But it is not always correct to identify these two personalities, therefore, according to tradition, the right to the original image remains with Bram Stoker, who in 1897 published his novel «Dracula».

The novel tells the story of Jonathan Harker, who goes to Transylvania to the estate of Graph Dracula, where he should discuss with him the issue of acquiring real estate in England. After spending some time in Dracula`s estate, Jonathan finds some things and events strange there: from coffins in the cellar to the lack of reflection of the owner in the mirror. Soon, the journey of the protagonist is gaining new momentum, which leads to unexplained and mysterious consequences...

People of the 20th century at different times had different thoughts about the mysterious character of Dracula. The most popular film adaptation of bloodsucker is «Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror», where the main bloodsucker looks like God's forgotten old monster with fangs, far from looking like a Graph who has at his disposal a large number of possessions around the world.

Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, 1922
Soon, other films were made, where Dracula appears as a charismatic and terrifying vampire in his manner. A similar image is present in such adaptations as «Dracula» (1931) with Bela Lugosi, « House of Dracula» (1945), «Dracula» (1958) with Christopher Lee and many others film adaptations.

With the development of human imagination, literature, and opportunities, closer to the end of the 20th century, updated and fresh films began to appear on the screens. For instance, «Bram Stoker's Dracula» (1992) with Winona Ryder, Keanu Reeves, and Gary Oldman; « Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles » (1994) with Brad Pitt, and Tom Cruise. Later, the world saw the famous «Van Helsing» (2008) and loved by teens «Twilight» (2008).

After decades, the famous image of the bloodsucker Graph Dracula began to acquire new specific qualities and external features: Edward's luminous skin in «Twilight» or unusual Gary Oldman's hairstyle which resembles Rococo style in «Bram Stoker's Dracula». Appearance may change, but the invariable features will never leave this character - addiction to human blood and thirst for murder.

The most interesting film adaptations, where a figure of the Dracula character and his source characters appeared
1. «Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror» (1922)
The classic story of J. Harker and Count Dracula, but with its individual features. The director of the film "Nosferatu" Friedrich Murnau could not get the right to shoot a film based on the novel by Bram Stoker. Therefore, the main bloodsucker had to be replaced by a terrifying monster and silenced his heroes, which eventually became the highlight of the film, a classic on a global scale and did not lose its main theme.
2. «Dracula» (1931)
The repeating story of his predecessor (Nosferatu), but with a real, well-established image of a vampire and the presence of dialogue of heroes.
3. «What We Do in the Shadows» (2014)
It turns out that vampires can be both funny and scary at the same time. An incredible "family" idyll reigns in the old house, where 4 vampires from different eras and with different personalities are cohabitants. Their task is to merge with society, do not show their real faces under any circumstances and it is preferably not to contact specific rivals - with werewolves. The film is pseudo-documentary, unusual and very funny.
4. «Bram Stoker's Dracula» (1992)
A distinctive feature of this film adaptation is the presence of the historical aspect of the appearance of the Dracula character. Yes-yes, the same Jonathan Harker, letters to Lucy and the transportation of the mysterious Dracula cargo to England. The director of the film, Francis Coppola, was inspired not only by Bram Stoker's novel, but also by the prototype of Dracula - Vlad Tepes, so there is why the story of the Romanian conqueror and his fate shows up in the film. We should not ignore the beautiful shooting, which in tandem with the main actors creates a fascinating and unusual atmosphere.
