"The spirit of competition is strong in me. I cannot stand the success of others. I hate almost everyone".
Oscar-winning film " There Will Be Blood" (2007)
Directed by Paul Anderson Starring: Daniel Day-Lewis, Paul Dano, Kevin James O'Connor Average rating: 8,2
Let`s talk about reality. The film "There Will Be Blood" tells the story of a miner who, thanks to the discovery of oil deposits, becomes a business, wealthy person and receives the status of an oilman. The protagonist, Daniel Plainview, travels with his son to different lands and buy them in order to build constructions for pumping oil. What does reality have to do with it? We see the life of people trying to survive on badlands without bread and we see a man who, on the contrary, wants to get almost all of the oil lands and in addition to this power, money and wealth.
What does Paul Anderson gave us? The film is painful and gloomy, sincere and tragic. Remarkable, in my opinion, is the reinforcement by the music of the intonation of some scenes. We hear the unceasing music that is gaining momentum and accelerating intense moments. A desire appears to say that this is the music of a mocking devil from hell. It conveys the desire for wealth, its feelings, interwoven with indifference to people, greed and crippled acts that lead to irreparable consequences. Dialogues are saturated with cold and gloom.
Do you remember the sound of the board game in the movie «Jumanji»? We were enveloped in a sense of excitement and a sense of up-coming misfortune, we felt the film and the state of the characters. In Paul Anderson's film, everything is exactly in the opposite way.
The film is about faith, values, greed, selfishness and an abnormal desire to get an endless state.
